My Carboot Jazzmen

In the closing minutes of the carboot I picked up these little fellas for a song. The lead singer is smaller than the rest, I think he is the spit of Chick Webb, can't find any reference for his being the model, but he is the best out of the lot.

ESDC London 2013

I hadn't been to a 'competition event' before. And although I probably won't go again, I'm glad I went.
I got to be a random audience judge twice (best seats in the room) and to see some pretty nice dancing.
Although Heathrow is a characterless location, I thought the hotel was sparkly and even felt glamourous at moments.

The Ukrainian entrants were mesmerizing. Two little girls with their strong silent partners. The (post) Iron Curtain baby in the long socks gave her poor lead a good bollocking for doing something wrong in practice just before their turn. He probably didn't throw her high enough. As I said, mesmerizing ;)

LLX 2013

Monday afternoon in Exmouth market
Pete Long is a legend

My blog reflects my dancing and as you can see from my post frequency I haven't been dancing much since before Christmas.
It took Belgium and the really very enchanting city of Gent to get me back on the dance floor for more than one night in a row. Really super cute venues, put's London's exchange to shame but I guess it's much cheaper and easier to stay put with so many more dancers.

Anyways I really enjoyed the Gent exchange...

Nice venue. Nice legs

I had the fish dish.

These two pics remind me of those you find at Square America

This Jazz club opened in '66
The Gent dancers got into trouble last year when they turned up and danced at the back uninvited. But this year, those that turned up for the 11am booty call were rewarded with great live music and a warm thank you from the locals, some of whom hopefully will be joining the scene.

These were taken on my phone, I'm gonna try and take out my 'proper' camera.

A wee flyer I did for this new dance in Telegraph Hill (nice address). It's tomorrow night, and I've only just posted this - ahem, er I kinda forgot I have a blog. Gonna try and follow this up with some pics from the dance..

When Swing Cafe asked if they could use my photo (from this night) for their Cafe, I was delighted. Now I'm totally thrilled. I thought life size would look great, and, ahem, it bloody does!

I will certainly be making time this year to go and check out it, their dance floor and their coffee!

Herräng, Midnight Sun, Camping, Dancing & Drinking!

I made this print for my boyfriend. His tipple of choice for last years Herräng was a bottle of Sailor Jerry, consumed mostly in his tent at Malmen under the white nights.

Herräng Vecka 4 2011

Wish I'd done jazz! But only intermediate/advance was available in week four so a no go with only a handful of jazz classes to my name. Chester and Loggins are legends.

Took even less photos than last year, but pleased with this one. (Will make an animated gif of the sequence if they line up nice enough)

Not sure I'll ever go back to Herräng. Even with a suitcase of anti mosquito nets, nerve agents, electric squatters, lotions and potions, anti-histamine tablets and creams ... I have returned to London with legs that look decidedly plague ridden. A very painful side to Herräng. Blueberry ice-cream did help a lot however :)

B E R L I N ! Ich liebe dich x

Went to the Berlin Ninjammerz parties this weekend. The Sunday do in the pool was very special. We got there early and were among the first to dance alone in what must be an Olympic sized pool. Appropriate kitsch swing was played to begin with giving it a very surreal feel.
Then the hoards arrived and filled up said pool. Good times. Danke!

Herräng Win!

I won a free week of classes and parties with this photo! Whoopee!

The Savoy Ball

Battersea Arts Center (The Old Town Hall)
Martin Ellis from Swingland put on an impressive show with non- stop live music from three swinging bands. The second picture shows all three bands on stage (Sticky Wicket and his Swing Orchestra, The Shirt Tail Stompers and King Candy & The Sugar Push) jamming at the end of the night.

Returned to Battersea the following day for lunch, passed an evening dinner/music venue with gypsy jazz advertised and a big mural of Django Reinhardt on the wall. Should have taken a pic, but will return as it looks promising. Also checked out Battersea Park for the first time which totally surprised me with all it's secrets. I had read it was a major location for the Festival of Britain 1951 but didn't know that they had restored a huge area. And they have done it proud. The landscaping,  architecture and eccentric extras make me want it as my local park.

Porchester Hall

A great deco discovery from Simon Selmon. Who managed to get a good attendance for his Rugcutter's Ball at short notice. Hoping for lots more events here where there is definitely room to swing out proper like!

Jitterbugs and Only Fools and Horses

Went to Jitts last week for the first time in ages as The Shirt Tail Stompers were playing. Great night. I had forgotten that in regular attendance is Trigger from Only Fools and Horses. Chose this shot as it's a little bit 'No Comment' - Celebrity-esque! Ahh.. the glamour that can be found in a synagog dance that finishes at 10.30pm!

22 years Stompin' at 100 Club
El Nino dj'd the first and the last (well - seems at least one more is billed for January). Packed and emotional for some. There is a rumour that there may be a last minute rescuer, fingers crossed.
